N. Korea’s ambitious new economic development plans to be led by Kim’s powerful uncle

SEOUL — North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un convened a meeting of senior economic-related officials from the Party, the Cabinet and local governments on Oct. 8, in which he approved major plans for economic development.

The new economic plans focused on special economic zones designed to attract foreign investment and is assumed to come under the authority of Kim’s powerful uncle, Jang Song-Thaek, sources here said.

“The meeting was held at the request of Jang, and he was allowed to have the full control of the economic campaign,” a source said.

The North has been establishing special economic zones at all of its nine provinces to attract foreign investment and foreign tourists.
