N. Korea convenes three major Party conclaves in two weeks

SEOUL — North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un convened an unusual series of meetings of senior Party and military leaders, officials here said.

Pyongyang held an expanded meeting of the Central Military Commission of the Workers’ Party on Feb. 22, presided over by Kim Jong-Un who rules the country as the first secretary of the Party and the supreme commander of the People’s Army.

Four days earlier on Feb. 18, the regime convened a meeting, also expanded, of the Party’s Politburo, the key ruling organ. And a week before that, on Feb. 10, the main Party Politburo met.

“It is rare for North Korea to hold three major Party meetings in less than two weeks,” an official at Seoul’s Unification Ministry said.
