TEL AVIV — Israel’s intelligence community has launched an online search for spies.

Israel’s foreign espionage agency, Mossad, has developed a website to recruit agents around the world. The website, published in a range of languages, was meant to attract recruits out of Israel’s reach.

5h45h“We must continue to recruit the best people into our ranks so that the Mossad might continue to lead, defend and allow for the continued existence of the state of Israel,” Mossad director Tamir Pardo said.

The Mossad said it was not limiting its search for recruits. The agency did not cite the reason for the unprecedented online campaign.

“The goal of the upgraded site is to make the organization more accessible to potential recruits who may not be exposed to the variety of positions — in operations, intelligence, technology and cyber, and administration — available,” a statement by a spokesman of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, responsible for the Mossad, said on Sept. 22.

Officials acknowledged that the online campaign was similar to recruitment by Al Qaida and Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. They said the Mossad decided to use the Internet and social media to expand its human sources and methods amid threats from ISIL and Iran.

“The Mossad’s qualitative human capital is the secret of our success,” Pardo said.
