Morsi claims Israel instigating riots in major cities

CAIRO — Egypt has accused Israel of helping the nationwide riots
against President Mohammed Morsi.

The Morsi regime has linked Israel with the emergence of an opposition
militia called Black Bloc. On Jan. 31, the regime charged a member of Black
Bloc with being directed by Israel to conduct sabotage in Egypt.

“This man belonging to the Black Bloc organization was arrested inside a building overlooking Tahrir Square carrying Israeli plans to target gasoline companies and vital installations, maps of these places and instructions on setting fire to some places,” Egypt’s official Middle East News Agency said on Jan. 31.

This marked the first time that Egypt has charged Israel with being
involved in the riots that have swept major cities, particularly around the Suez Canal. The ruling Muslim Brotherhood has accused Western governments with helping the opposition against Morsi.

Authorities did not identify the detainee. Black Bloc, which emerged in
late January, has been battling security forces around Cairo but denied any link to foreign governments or the political opposition.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry has denied the Egyptian report. Egypt’s
media have also asserted that Hamas was involved in the latest unrest and
said 7,000 Palestinians crossed from the Gaza Strip to Egypt support Morsi.

So far, at least 18 alleged members of Black Bloc have been arrested,
some of them accused of recruiting university students. MENA said the first
alleged member was detained after he allegedly ordered black masks and
clothes for the group.
