CAIRO — Morocco has signed an agreement for additional offshore
energy exploration.
Morocco’s energy monopoly has signed accords with Chevron for
exploration in three areas of the Atlantic Ocean. Under the agreements,
Chevron’s Moroccan subsidiary would begin seismic and other studies of the Cap Rhir Deep, Cap Cantin Deep and Cap Walidia Deep areas, which total 11,300 square miles.
“The tests will begin after the awards have been formally approved,” an
executive said.
The offshore blocks were located west of the Moroccan port of Agadir.
Under the agreements, Chevron Morocco was allocated 75 percent of the
project, with Morocco’s state-owned Office National des Hydrocarbures et des
Mines the remaining 25 percent.
