Industry sources said the North African kingdom would release tenders for the construction of two solar facilities. They were identified as a 200-megawatt plant and 100 megawatt facility in the southern city of
Ouarzazate.

The Moroccan Solar Energy Agency identified the finalists as Spain’s Abengoa and Saudi Arabia’s Acwa Power for the 200 megawatt facility. Acwa has begun construction of a 160 megawatt plant in Ouarzazate.

France’s EDF has also been participating in the competition for the 100 megawatt solar facility. The sources said the programs would be financed
from private investors as well as the World Bank and European Investment Bank.
