More light shed on new ‘KGB with Chinese characteristics’

When the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) announced at a Central Committee plenum last November that it was setting up a Central National Security Commission (CNSC), most analysts compared it to the American National Security Council.

Since then, few details have emerged about this secretive superagency, aside from the fact that it is chaired by President Xi Jinping and the two vice-chairs are Premier Li Keqiang and National People’s Congress Chairman (NPC) Zhang Dejiang.

All three are members of the supreme Politburo Standing Committee (PBSC).

Chinese sources have told EastAsiaIntel that the Secretary-general of the Commission is Central Committee General Office (CCGO) Director Li Zhanshu, a Xi confidant and troubleshooter.
