CAIRO — Libyan rebels, despite an agreement, have again refused to withdraw from crude oil terminals.
Rebel militias have announced the end of cooperation with Libyan Prime Minister Ahmed Maiteeq in plans to leave the terminals occupied for nearly a year.
The announcement came amid failed efforts to negotiate the evacuation
of the terminals of Ras Lanuf and Sider.
“We refuse to deal with Ahmed Maiteeq,” rebel spokesman Ali Hasi said on
May 7. “Maiteeq came to power illegally.”
Hasi did not explain why the rebels would no longer cooperate with the
Tripoli government. So far, the rebels relayed two smaller terminals —
Hariga and Zueitina.
