CAIRO — The Libyan Army has given militias an ultimatum to end their takeover of oil fields and ports.

The Army told former rebel militias that they must end their occupation
of oil export terminals at the eastern port of Ras Lanuf.
In a statement on Nov. 30, the chief of staff said militia fighters would stop receiving government salaries on Dec. 15 unless they joined the military.
“End your strikes without condition so the oil flows to the ports and the economy recovers so we can build up the state and the armed forces,” the military statement said.
The statement, in wake of the government’s failure to negotiate an end
to the militia takeover, did not specify what the military would do.
The statement warned of chaos throughout Libya amid the shutdown of Ras Lanuf,
which had exported more than 200,000 barrels of oil per day.
