The military said it conducted a series of exercises in the northern and southern parts of the Hashemite kingdom.

“There have also been workshops held to deal with this threat,” Jordanian Army Col. Mohammed Mawajdeh said.

In an address on Feb. 8, Mawajdeh, director of the military’s crisis management division, said exercises would also be conducted in the central part of the kingdom. He did not elaborate.

The colonel was speaking at a crisis management workshop that addressed the wave of Syrian migration over the last two years.

Officials said about 600,000 Syrians have resettled in Jordan, many of them in refugee camps in the north.

“Confronting disasters is a critical area,” Interior Minister Mohammed Thneibat said.
