JERUSALEM — Israel is bracing for additional attacks by Iran.
Officials said Iran was working with Hizbullah to attack Israeli
interests abroad. They said the two were conducting reconnaissance and
planning major strikes against Israeli tourists and embassies in Asia,
Europe and South America.

“I call on Israelis abroad to show awareness and take basic steps to
reduce possible harm,” an Israeli security official said.
In a briefing on Feb. 17, the official, a member of the
Counter-Terrorism Bureau, announced a travel alert for most of the world, including Asia, Europe and North and South America. The official urged Israelis to reject gifts or packages offered by strangers and increase their situational awareness.
“Iran and Hizbullah are planning more attacks overseas,” the official said.
Western diplomats said Iran and Israel were engaged in a low-level war that targeted each other’s vital interests. The diplomats cited the assassination of five Iranian nuclear scientists over the last two years, which Teheran attributed to Israel.
“The attacks are escalating and targeting both military and civilian
personnel and even their families,” a diplomat said.
The Israeli official said Teheran and Hizbullah were also seeking to
attack synagogues and Jewish communities around the world. He said Hizbullah
secretary-general Hassan Nasrallah could be issuing statements that reflect
Iran’s intentions.
“There is great determination on their part to carry out attacks,” the
official said. “It’s important that people understand that we’re facing
additional attacks, but Israel is making great efforts to prevent future
attacks.”
