JERUSALEM — Israel has warned of an imminent attack in Egypt’s Sinai
Peninsula.

The Counter-Terrorism Bureau, part of the prime minister’s office,
said that Palestinian insurgency groups were planning an attack on
Israelis in Sinai.

The bureau called on the estimated 3,000 Israelis in
Sinai to leave immediately.

“Based on information in our possession, terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip are continuing to work energetically to carry out terrorist attacks against Israeli targets on Sinai’s beaches in the immediate term,” the bureau said.

In a statement on April 21, the bureau said Palestinian insurgents were escalating efforts to target Israelis in Sinai. This marked the second warning to Israelis in Sinai in as many months.

“Security forces have reliable and updated information showing that
terror agencies are currently attempting to kidnap Israelis in Sinai for
negotiation purposes,” the bureau said in a previous alert.

Officials said about 70 percent of those who leave Israel for Sinai
have been foreign nationals. They said Hamas was working with Palestinian
militias such as Islamic Jihad and Popular Resistance Committees to target
resorts frequented by Israelis, particularly in Nueiba and Taba.

“Therefore, the NSCCTB [National Security Council Counter-Terrorism
Bureau] calls on all Israelis in Sinai to leave immediately and return
home,” the latest bureau statement said. “NSCCTB also reiterates its
recommendation that Israelis seeking to travel to Sinai refrain from doing
so.”
