JERUSALEM — For the first time, a senior Israeli official has acknowledged that the nation’s intelligence community was deceived by the Palestinian Authority in counter-insurgency cooperation.
Yosef Kuperwasser, director-general of the Strategic Affairs Ministry, testified that the Israel Security Agency was accepting false and misleading data from the PA.
Kuperwasser, a senior Israeli intelligence officer, said ISA, responsible for domestic security, became enamored by the PA intelligence leadership over the last decade.
“What happened to the ISA officials is that they fell in love with the Palestinians with whom they were in contact,” Kuperwasser said. “That is simply a mistake. Personally, I was in contact with the same people and was not deluded.”
