JERUSALEM — The election in Iran has increased the likelihood that Iran and the United States could achieve reconciliation in 2014, Israel’s intelligence community has assessed.
Officials said the assessment was relayed to the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the last month.
The officials said the assessment envisioned an intensified U.S. effort to reach an agreement with Iran’s new president, Hassan Rowhani, within a year.
“This assessment was repeated several times over the last year, but after Rowhani’s election, the likelihood of a reconciliation campaign became stronger than ever,” an official said.
