Israeli firm unveils ‘breakthrough’ system for jamming IEDs

LONDON — An Israeli defense major has unveiled an advanced military
jammer.

Israel’s Elbit Systems has unveiled an electronic warfare system meant
to foil remote-controlled improvised explosive devices.

elbit-logo-aElbit said the new system, Miniature Reactive Jammer, could protect any combat vehicle during urban warfare and border security missions.

“The new system is a breakthrough in the field of jamming RC-IEDs activated against military and VIP vehicles due to its ability to effectively counter modern threats, while saving energy and minimizing the risks in detection, as opposed to previous systems,” Edgar Maimon, general manager of Elbit subsidiary Elisra, said.

The new system was introduced in the DSEI exhibition outside London on
Sept. 13. Executives said the jammer was designed to intercept signals and
block potential threats by concentrating energy on a particular frequency
range.

“Multiple systems can work in parallel without interfering each other,”
Maimon said.

Elbit said the system, based on Elisra’s self-protection equipment for
the military, could operate in a range of 25 to 6,000 megahertz. The company
said MRJ was lightweight and modular and could be installed anywhere on a
vehicle.
