WASHINGTON — An Israeli defense major has been marketing border
security solutions to the United States.

Elbit Systems has been presenting border security solutions at an
exposition in San Diego, Calif. Through its subsidiary, Elbit Systems of
America, executives have been briefing U.S. officials and security officers
on Israeli-origin unmanned vehicles.

“We have a rich history of protecting some of the most challenging borders around the world,” Elbit Systems of America president Raanan Horowitz said. “It is time to bring this experience home to our U.S. borders.”

On Nov. 7, Elbit held presentations at the IDGA Border Management Conference and Technology Expo. The presentations included unmanned technology solutions for air, land and sea reconnaissance, including the Skylark tactical unmanned aerial vehicle, the Guardium unmanned ground vehicle as well as Stingray Mk II unmanned surface
vehicle.

“Using sensors, radars, and electro-optics combined with unattended ground sensors, unmanned air systems, unmanned ground vehicles and unmanned
surface vehicles, the layered border protection concept enhances the agents’
ability to respond,” Elbit said on Nov. 7. “By integrating these
technologies with communications and a command operating picture, agents are
provided detailed information for detecting, tracking, identifying, and
classifying items of interest.”

Elbit has sought partnerships with U.S. defense majors for border
security solutions. One target has been Boeing, which was awarded a major
contract to help secure the southern U.S. border with Mexico.

“At Elbit Systems of America, we are committed to supporting our agents
in field-the officers that put their lives in danger to protect our
families, friends, and neighbors,” Horowitz said.
