TEL AVIV — Israel has overseen a successful demonstration of a
system to protect commercial aircraft against surface-to-air missiles.
The government has overseen tests of the C-MUSIC system of Israel’s
Elbit Systems.
The company said C-MUSIC proved its capability to protect a Boeing 707 aircraft against shoulder-launched SAMs.
“The system could be fitted to any aircraft,” an Elbit executive said.
On Jan. 16, Elbit said C-MUSIC combined advanced fiber laser technology with a thermal camera. The company said its technology ensured full protection against passenger and cargo aircraft.
Elbit did not provide details of the recent tests. The company said
countries have expressed interest in C-MUSIC.
