JERUSALEM — Israel has again reported a sharp rise in Palestinian
attacks — this time in the West Bank.

The Israel Security Agency reported a 65 percent increase in
Palestinian attacks in February 2013. ISA cited 139 attacks in February
compared to 83 during the previous month.

“Most of these attacks were in the form of firebombing, in Jerusalem and Judea and Samaria [West Bank],” ISA said.

The sharp increase came amid the observance of a ceasefire between
Israel and the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip. ISA cited one rocket attack from the Gaza Strip in February amid the ceasefire reached in wake of the mini-war in November 2012.

ISA, which has detected support from the Palestinian Authority, said
Palestinians hurled or detonated improvised explosive devices
against Israeli civilians and soldiers in the West Bank. The report said IED strikes more than doubled in February, with a total of 100 attacks reported in the West Bank, compared to 56 in January.

The Palestinian attacks took place amid rising unrest in the West Bank.
ISA reported the injury of three Israelis last month, all of them from
stones or firebombs in either Jerusalem or the West Bank.

“One terrorist attack from the Gaza Strip took place when a rocket was
fired into Israel on Feb. 26,” the report said. “There were no similar
attacks in January.”
