The command also closed areas near where the Syrian Army was battling Sunni rebels.

“There is increasing danger that shells and bullets will land in our zone,” a source said.

On May 11, Northern Command closed the Quneitra crossing, employed by diplomats and United Nations peace-keepers.

The military cited heavy fighting between the Syrian Army and rebels.

The sources said the Syrian Army has intensified operations to regain areas of the Golan held by rebels for the past year.

The sources said the Syrian Army maintains control of Quneitra as well as Khader near the frontier with Israel.

Northern Command also warned farmers to keep away from the border frontier. The command has also deployed a new unit, Bashan Division, trained to stop Syrian infiltration into the Golan.
