Israel indicts Bedouin Arab residents for bomb, rocket plots

TEL AVIV — Israel has captured two Arab nationals accused of
plotting to launch rockets toward a key facility.

The Israel Security Agency said two Bedouin Arabs were arrested and
indicted for a plot to fire rockets toward a bus station in the southern
city of Beersheba. ISA said the two brothers were directed by Islamic Jihad
in the Gaza Strip.

The Beersheba bus station is said to have been the target of a terrorist attack by two Israeli Arab brothers.

“This is a grave incident, in which Israeli civilians, residents of the
Negev, planned terrorism against civilians and security forces,” ISA said.

In a statement on Jan. 20, ISA identified the men as brothers Mahmoud and Samah Abu Quider. The statement said Mahmoud, 24, conducted surveillance on the bus station and sought to purchase an automobile for the bombing.

ISA said Mahmoud confessed to building pipe bombs through the Internet. He said the bombs, meant to be used against police, were detonated in the desert.

Samir, 21, was indicted for assembling bombs. ISA said Samah also
gathered ammunition stolen from the Israel Army. Over the last 30 years,
Bedouins have volunteered for the Army as scouts.

ISA said the brothers, arrested in early January, were directed by
unidentified insurgents from the Gaza Strip. The agency said the Bedouins,
who allegedly also worked with Jewish soldiers, were informed on how to
assemble rockets.

“The suspect surfed Internet sites belonging to global jihadi elements
around the world, and was influenced by their ideology,” the statement said.
