Jordan has agreed to import gas from Israel’s Leviathan offshore field in the eastern Mediterranean.

Under the accord, estimated at $15 billion, Leviathan operator, the U.S. firm Noble Energy, would supply Israeli gas to the Hashemite kingdom for 15 years.

“Noble Energy and the Leviathan partners will supply a base gross quantity of 1.6 trillion cubic feet of natural gas from the Leviathan field over a 15-year term,” Noble said.

In a statement on Sept. 3, Noble said Jordan’s National Electric Power Co. approved a non-binding Letter of Intent for the Israeli gas. In February 2014, Jordan reached agreement to import gas from Israel’s offshore Tamar field.
