A 17-year-old Austrian who became a “poster girl” for Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL) was reportedly killed by jihadists after attempting to escape.

Samra Kesinovic is said to have been beaten to death after attempting to flee from Raqqa, ISIL’s de-facto capital in Syria, The Daily Mail reported on Nov. 24, citing Austrian newspaper reports.

Kesinovic was infamously known as a “poster girl” for ISIL after appearing extensively in the terror group’s propaganda material. Kesinovic left her home in Vienna last year to join ISIL along with Sabina Selimovic, a 16-year-old friend.

Both are now believed to be dead, after reports Selimovic was killed in fighting in Syria last year.

The two Austrian teens reportedly left a note for their families which read: “Don’t look for us. We will serve Allah and we will die for him.”

Kesinovic and Selimovic were able to join up with ISIL by first taking flight to the Turkish capital of Ankara, then moving on to the region of Adana, close to the border with Syria, and finally arriving in Raqqa.

The teens were quickly married off to ISIL jihadists soon after arriving in Raqqa, The Daily Mail reported.

The United Nations estimates that some 130 Austrians have fled to Syria in order to join ISIL.
