The Kuwaiti Interior Ministry said it turned away Murtada Al Quzweini earlier this month.

Al Quzweini, who also holds U.S. citizenship, has been
identified as a Shi’ite cleric from Iraq with origins in Iran.

“During a previous visit to Kuwait, he insulted the prophet,” the
Interior Ministry said.

In a statement on March 18, the ministry cited the last tour of Kuwait
by Al Quzweini in January 2013. The ministry said Al Quzweini abused the companions of Islam’s founder Mohammed.

The ministry decision came amid Sunni protests against Al Quzweini.

Officials said the Interior Ministry barred a series of Iranian-aligned
clerics over the last two years amid complaints of Iranian intervention in
Kuwait.
