Iraq hits record 3 million barrels per day

BAGHDAD — Iraq has reported reaching a record in crude oil
production.

The government of Prime Minister Nouri Al Maliki and its Oil Ministry said Iraq has reached its highest level of oil production since 1979.

The Oil Ministry has reported an output of more than three million barrels per day.

Officials said Iraq plans to continue to increase production to 3.4
million barrels per day in 2012.

The officials said exports were expected to reach 2.6 million barrels per day amid the opening of an export terminal in the northern Gulf.

The Oil Ministry said Iraq has set an export goal of five million
barrels per day from southern fields.

The ministry said two of five export terminals would be completed in 2012.
