Iran announced on Sept. 27 that serial production of Shahed-129 unmanned aerial vehicles had begun and that the UAVs can strike multiple stationary and mobile targets.
Citing sources from Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps [IRGC], the state-run Press TV stated that the armed drone could carry four guided Sadid missiles, with an effective combat radius of 1,700 km, or 1,050 miles, a flight endurance of 24 hours and flight ceiling of 24,000 feet.
Analysts believe the Shahed-129 was originally based on the Israeli Hermes 450 design. But that design was significantly modified after the capture of a U.S. RQ-170 Sentinel drone in December 2011.
