Iran has just 700-800 soldiers remaining in Syria after having as many as 7,000 as of late October, Israeli officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Walla! News.

Earlier this month, a senior Western defense official had told Bloomberg News at the Saban Forum in Washington that just 700 Iranian troops remained in Syria. It was also reported earlier this month that Iran terror proxy Hizbullah has lost a third of its fighting force in Syria.

In late November, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that Maj. Gen. Qassem Soleimani, commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps’ (IRGC) elite Qods Force, was injured in battle in Aleppo.

Four IRGC commanders, including Gen. Hossein Hamedani, have died in the Syrian conflict. Hamedani, a veteran of the Iran-Iraq war, was killed in October by Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL) jihadists near Aleppo.
