NICOSIA — Iran has reported the construction of missile facilities in Syria.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it oversaw the establishment of missile production lines in Syria. A senior commander said the facilities were manufacturing missiles designed by Iran.

“The missile production plants in Syria have been built by Iran, and the missiles designed by Iran are being produced there,” IRGC Air Force commander Gen. Amir Ali Hajizadeh said.

In an interview with Iran’s state-owned Fars News Agency, Hajizadeh did not specify the Iranian missiles produced in Syria. The air force chief said Teheran also transferred expertise and technology for missile production by its proxy Hizbullah.

“The Lebanese Hizbullah and the Palestinian resistance have grown highly powerful in this field now,” Hajizadeh said.

One Iranian missile supplied to Hizbullah was identified as the Fateh-110, with a reported range of more than 200 kilometers. Fateh-110 was described as a solid-fuel projectile that contains a guidance system.

“Considering the range of their missiles, they are able now to attack all targets from southern to northern parts of the occupied territories,” IRGC deputy air force commander Brig. Gen. Majid Musavi, referring to Israel, said.

IRGC has touted Iran as the sixth largest missile power in the world. In March 2014, the Iranian Defense Ministry announced serial production of a range of missiles, including Fateh-110 and Qader.

“These missiles can strike and destroy enemy targets with a high-precision capability, and provide for a wide range of the armed forces’ needs to missiles with different ranges,” Iranian Defense Minister Hussein Dehqan said.
