Officials said Iran was discussing a pipeline project to pump gas in cooperation with neighbors. They said the gas supplies would be welcomed to European Union members in wake of a nuclear agreement with the P5+1.

“We know Iran plans to build a big pipeline to carry gas to Europe and five European countries have already planned to buy Iranian gas,” Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz said.

“As long as Iran develops more ties with the world, its relations with Turkey will also improve.”

In remarks on Dec. 12, Yildiz did not rule out that the Iranian pipeline would move through Turkey. He said Ankara was also working with neighboring Iraq, particularly the autonomous region of Kurdistan, on energy projects.
