Iran moves to ‘put aside’ dollar and euro, work with China on foreign deals

NICOSIA — Iran plans to exclude Western currency from its foreign
trade.

Officials said the Teheran regime would not accept the U.S. dollar or
euro for energy and other contracts.

They said Iran was more interested in working with China and Turkey amid Western sanctions on Teheran.

“According to the decision made by the Cabinet working group, dollar and euro will be gradually put aside from Iran’s trade with other countries,” Iranian Economy Minister Shams Eddin Husseini said.

Addressing a meeting on Jan. 14, Husseini said the decision reflected
Iran’s new trading partners.

Teheran has threatened to replace the dollar as
the currency for oil sales since at least 2009.
