Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif made the comment in Beijing on Sept. 15 at the start of talks with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi.

The deal reached between Tehran and world powers in July calls for the lifting of international sanctions against Iran in return for Tehran curbing its nuclear program, which the West has assumed was aimed at developing nuclear weapons.

China is the biggest customer of Iranian oil and Zarif said their economies were “complementary.”

The two countries faced “similar challenges as well as opportunities,” he said.

Wang said China would fulfill its promises and play an active and constructive role in implementing the nuclear agreement, which Beijing helped negotiate.
