Iran announces strategic plans for naval deployments in the Atlantic

U.S. intelligence agencies are preparing for Iranian naval deployments near the Atlantic coast, following reports that a warship will depart soon for waters near the United States.

Iran’s defense minister, Brig. Gen. Ahmad Vahidi, said Oct. 17 that deployments near U.S. coasts are expected soon, the Mehr news agency reported.

“The Navy has a strong presence in the Caspian Sea, Persian Gulf, Sea of Oman, Indian Ocean and international waters,” he said. “Soon it will be present in the Atlantic Ocean.”

Vahidi added: “The Iranian Navy forces are now pursuing a strategic approach to attain their lofty goals.”
