Iran again violates UN resolutions with mid-range ballistic missile test

Iran tested a new medium range ballistic missile in November in another violation of UN Security Council resolutions, a U.S. official said.

Iran on Nov. 21 carried out a test of the Ghadr-110 missile near Chabahar, a port city in southeast Iran’s Sistan and Baluchestan Province near the border with Pakistan, the official told Fox News. The nuclear-capable Ghadr-110 has a range of 1,800-2,000 kilometers (1,200 miles).

The Ghadr-110 is an improved version of the Shahab-3 and is similar to a precision guided missile tested by Teheran on Oct. 10. The October test was strongly condemned by several members of the UN Security Council.

U.S. Ambassador to the UN, Samantha Power had said that the ballistic missile tested in October was “inherently capable of delivering a nuclear weapon. The United States is deeply concerned about Iran’s recent ballistic missile launch,” Power said at the time.

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest acknowledge the October test was likely a breach of UN sanctions but said it would not affect the implementation of the nuclear deal with world powers.

A U.S. official told Fox News on Dec. 7 that the Obama administration was “aware” of reports of the November missile test, but had “no further comment at this time.”
