Hawkish generals around Xi ridiculed online after U.S. B-52s ignored new Air ID Zone

Beijing’s designation of an Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) that partially overlaps with that of Japan and South Korea has raised alarms throughout the Asia-Pacific Region.

While attention has focused on the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) leadership’s immediate goal of securing de facto control over the Diaoyu-Senkaku islands (which are claimed by both China and Japan) — President and Commander-in-Chief Xi Jinping’s real intention could be to test American resolve.

Early this week, the PLA also decided to send China’s sole aircraft carrier, the Liaoning, from its base in northern China to the South China Sea.

Unofficial spokesmen within the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) have already told the domestic media that additional ADIZs may be set up around China to project Chinese power and assert China’s claims as an “maritime power.”
