GAZA CITY — Hamas has charged the Palestinian Authority with supplying intelligence to Israel during the 50-day war in 2014.

A senior Hamas official said the Islamic movement gathered evidence that the PA relayed intelligence to Israel of key figures in Hamas. The official said the PA intelligence enabled Israel to identify and target scores of leading commanders from Hamas and its Palestinian militia allies in the Gaza Strip.

“We have documents that prove that PA security forces provided Israel with details of commanders and homes from Hamas as well as Fatah and Islamic Jihad,” Hamas official Salah Baradawil said.

In an interview on Hamas’ Al Aqsa television on Feb. 3, Bardawil did not specify the alleged PA intelligence cooperation with Israel, Middle East Newsline reported. But he said Hamas would relay the documents to a leading Fatah official, Azzem Ahmed, during his visit to the Gaza Strip.

“Hamas will also submit the documents to other Palestinian factions,” Bardawil said.

Hamas has long accused the PA of providing intelligence on the ruling Islamic movement in the Gaza Strip. But this marked the first time that Hamas said PA intelligence was used to kill senior commanders.

Bardawil said the PA also relayed intelligence on Hamas to neighboring Egypt. He said the PA as well as the rival Fatah movement presented what was termed “false and misleading” information to persuade Egypt to oppose the Hamas regime.

Hamas has also accused Israel of intensifying espionage operations in the Gaza Strip. Officials said a major Israeli agent was arrested in the Gaza Strip in January 2015.

“He was one of the most dangerous spies [for Israel],” an official said.
