Yeni Akit, which is closely aligned with Erdogan and his Islamist AKP party, said the Journal is known for its “hostility to Islam,” and accused the Murdoch-owned paper of helping to spread the PKK’s agenda by interviewing members of the Patriotic Revolutionary Youth Movement, which the Erdogan government says colludes with the PKK.

The Turkish newspaper charged that the Journal refers to PKK fighters as militants rather than terrorists in article from the city of Silopi, situated where the Iraqi, Turkish and Syrian borders meet.

Yeni Akit highlighted quotes from a 22-year-old female commander, who told the Journal that the PKK’s youth arm had a growing presence “in every city in Turkey.”

Turkey, which has recently launched air strikes on PKK targets in northern Iraq, said two Turkish troops and a policeman were killed on Aug. 24 in attacks Ankara blamed on the PKK.

Yeni Akit is known for publishing hate speech against Jews, the LGBT community, Armenians, Greeks, Yazidis and secularists, among others.

While Murdoch has often expressed support for Israel, the paper’s claim that he is Jewish is false according to an Israeli news report. However his mother is said to be Jewish by several anti-Jewish organizations.
