Egypt’s Sinai offensive kills 43, captures 87, destroys 16 terror hideouts

EgyptianForcesEgypt’s Army reported the killing of 43 terrorists in its ongoing offensive in Sinai.

Army spokesman Mohamed Samir said the terrorists were killed with the help of air power, in firefights that broke out after attempted attacks on security checkpoints, the Aswat Masriya newspaper reported.

Some 16 terrorist hideouts were destroyed and 87 were arrested in El-Arish, Rafah, and Sheikh Zuweid.

Meanwhile, Egypt has nominated former foreign minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit to head the Arab League in 2016, succeeding current Secretary-general Nabil Al Arabi, Shorouk newspaper reported, according to Ahram Online.

Gheit served from 2004 until 2011.
