Egypt’s army said the operation against the Sinai Province terrorists was launched on Sept. 6 to “eliminate terrorist elements” around the towns of Rafah, Sheikh Zuweid and El-Arish.

The army reported that 29 jihadists were killed on Sept. 6, while an Egyptian officer and a soldier died, and four were wounded when their vehicle was blown up by a bomb. Another 27 terrorists were killed and 154 arrested on Sept. 7.

The Egyptian army’s operation came days after Sinai Province released a video documenting its attacks on the military, including footage of a missile strike that destroyed a navy vessel.

Last week, six peacekeepers, including four Americans, with a multinational force monitoring Egypt’s peace treaty with Israel were wounded in two roadside bombings.
