Egypt renews gas pipeline operations to Jordan, not Israel

AMMAN — Egypt has resumed natural gas supplies to Jordan.

Officials said Egypt has renewed the operation of the Arab Gas Pipeline
earlier this month. They said the pipeline, bombed 14 times since February 2011,
would transport up to 70 million cubic feet of gas per day to the Hashemite
kingdom.

The pipeline was meant to supply Israel and Jordan with gas supplies. In
April, Egypt canceled its contract with Israel, sparking a diplomatic
crisis.

Officials said Egypt could expand its gas supply to Jordan to reach 200
million cubic feet. They said the initial flow was meant to test the
capacity of the repaired pipeline, which had been targeted by insurgents
several days earlier.
