The Egyptian army has destroyed a large number of the tunnels amid President Abdul Fatah Sisi’s crackdown on Hamas’s network of smuggling tunnels between Gaza and Sinai.

The tunnels have been used to smuggle arms to jihadists who have carried out deadly attacks on Egyptian security personnel in Sinai.

In a Dec. 7 announcement on its official Facebook page, Egypt’s military said the tunnels were found and destroyed in November.

Israel and Egypt have maintained a blockade on Gaza since Hamas seized control in 2007.
