JERUSALEM — Israel, amid the ceasefire with the Hamas regime, has
reported no attacks from the Gaza Strip.

The Israel Security Agency did not cite any attacks from the Gaza Strip
during January. This marked the first time in years in which no attacks
were reported from the strip, for decades the leading source of violence
against Israel.

“January saw no attacks from Gaza as opposed to one attack in December,” ISA said.

In its monthly report, the domestic intelligence agency reported 83
attacks in January, a decline from 112 in December 2012. ISA said attacks in the West Bank and Jerusalem also decreased in January, with 56 and 27, respectively.

Officials attributed the halt in attacks to the ceasefire with Hamas arranged by Egypt in November 2012. The ceasefire ended an eight-day missile war, in which 1,500 projectiles were fired from the Gaza Strip into Israel.

“Throughout January 2013 no rockets or mortar shells were launched into Israel from the Gaza Strip, as opposed to two mortar shell launchings in December 2012,” ISA said.

The monthly report cited the injury of three Israelis in the West Bank
last month. The injured included two Israeli security officers struck by a
firebomb at the Aroub refugee camp near Hebron.

“Most attacks executed in January — 70 out of 83 — were in the form of
firebombs,” the report said.
