Half a million Hong Kong residents took part in a demonstration on July 1 against the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) leadership’s adulteration of autonomous powers granted the Special Administrative Region (SAR) upon the reversion of Hong Kong’s sovereignty in 1997.

This followed hot upon the heels of another act of defiance against Beijing: close to 800,000 Hong Kong citizens took part in a “mock referendum” that backs the popular nomination of candidates who will be running for the position of the SAR’s chief executive (CE) in 2017.
The CCP authorities have all along insisted that a pro-Beijing nomination committee be empowered to pick candidates for the crucial polls….
While the July 1 demonstrations and the referendum have clearly demonstrated Hong Kong people’s revolt against Beijing’s increasingly overt interference in the internal affairs of the SAR, the leadership under President Xi Jinping is in no mood for compromise.
