Gulf conclave to address region’s decline in global energy influence

ABU DHABI — Kuwait plans to host regional natural gas talks.

The Kuwaiti Oil Ministry said the Gulf Cooperation Council sheikdom would host an energy conference on Sept. 10-11.

The GCC is said to have been concerned over the decline of influence in the global energy market.

The ministry said the talks would be attended by representatives of all six GCC states.

“The meeting will be chaired by Kuwaiti Oil Minister and State Minister for National Assembly Affairs Ali Al Omair, and will discuss Kuwait’s proposal to enact cooperation on expertise and the exchange of know-how between the oil companies of the six GCC states,” the Oil Ministry said.

In a statement on Sept. 1, the ministry said the energy summit would seek to increase regional cooperation.
