The two Asian states signed energy cooperation agreements on Jan. 17 during the visit by Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao.

Under the agreements, the UAE’s state-owned Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. and the China National Petroleum Corp. would form partnerships for several energy projects.

“We are open to boosting and expanding the cooperation and friendship ties with the countries in the east, among others, China,” Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, also deputy UAE commander, said.

Another agreement was a memorandum of understanding that would advance energy technology between China and the UAE.

Officials said the MoU would also address major renewable energy projects, including nuclear and solar
power.
