ABU DHABI — The United Arab Emirates has completed an oil pipeline
that bypasses the Iranian-dominated Strait of Hormuz.

Officials said the pipeline that links the Habshan oil fields to the UAE
port of Fujairah was completed in April. They said the facility would
allow the UAE and other Gulf Cooperation Council states to maintain
oil exports amid an Iranian blockade of Hormuz.

“The pipeline is complete, and now it’s being tested,” UAE Oil Minister
Mohammed Al Hamli said on May 3. “It’s filled with crude now, and exports
will start within three months.”

Officials said the pipeline, built by China, would begin with a flow of
1.4 million barrels of crude per day. They said capacity could increase to
1.8 million barrels per day.
