Al Qaida attacks on pipeline crippling Iraq oil exports to Turkey

BAGHDAD — Iraq has significantly reduced its crude oil exports amid
the Al Qaida insurgency.

kirkupipelineIndustry sources said Iraq’s state-owned Somo have slashed crude exports from the northern city of Kirkuk by more than 50 percent this month.

The officials said Somo would ship to Turkey 110,000 barrels per day, down from 244,000 barrels in August.

“There is a huge backlog from Kirkuk that is stuck because of constant attacks on the pipeline,” a source said.

The sources also cited leaks from aging Iraqi pipelines. They said Somo did not complete its delivery schedule for August.
