ABU DHABI — The United Arab Emirates has joined other nations investing in energy
exploration in Africa.

The UAE’s emirate of Abu Dhabi has purchased a stake in the African
nation of Tanzania. Under the deal, the UAE state-owned Mubadala Oil & Gas,
which markets natural gas around the Gulf region, acquired 20 percent of
Block 7 from Dominion Petroleum, with licenses throughout central Africa.

Britain, France and China have already
been exploring in such African countries as Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

“This opportunity represents an important step in the continued growth
of Mubadala’s international oil and gas portfolio and our entry into an
important, new high-impact exploration province,” Mubadala chief executive
officer Maurizio La Noce said.

The UAE has expanded interests in crude oil and natural gas projects
throughout Asia as well as Egypt.
