‘Mainstream’ rebels in Syria require ‘urgent foreign assistance’

LONDON — Here’s how the Sunni world views the so-called U.S.-led campaign against Islamic State of Iraq and Levant: Washington will form an unofficial alliance with Iran in the Middle East and rehabilitate Syria’s Assad.

ISIL will attack the weakest Middle East members of the coalition, particularly Saudi Arabia. The bottom line: Don’t expect anything more than words from the Arab world when it comes to ISIL.

According to a recent report, Western-backed rebels in Syria’s largest city face an imminent collapse following advances by both the military and ISIL.

The International Crisis Group said that the so-called mainstream opposition in Aleppo was crumbling amid the offensive by the Syrian Army and ISIL [also known as ISIS for Islamic State of Iraq an Syria].

In a report, the Brussels-based research group said the opposition required urgent foreign assistance to prevent the collapse of the Sunni revolt.
