MOSCOW — Russia has continued to explore for energy in war-torn Iraq.

Russia’s Gazprom Neft has been drilling an exploration well in the Shakal block in the autonomous region of Kurdistan.
Under the project, Gazprom also planned to soon begin drilling on a second exploration well.
“The project will study two oil reservoirs in the Shakal block including flow testing,” Gazprom said on Aug. 1. “Well testing will be completed by late 2014-early 2015.”
Under the project, the two wells would reach a depth of 3.5 kilometers. Gazprom has already completed three-dimensional seismic surveys that encompass more than 290 square kilometers.
