8th explosion this year hits pipeline in Egypt that supplies half Israel’s gas

CAIRO — Egypt has reported another explosion at the Arab Gas
Pipeline.

Officials said the pipeline, which supplies Israel and Jordan with
natural gas, was bombed on Nov. 25. They said the attack took place at the
facility 60 kilometers west of the northern Sinai Peninsula provincial
capital of El Arish.

The Arab Gas Pipeline has been bombed at least eight times in 2011 after the ouster of President Hosni Mubarak.

Israel and Jordan are said to receive at least half of their gas requirements from the pipeline.

Egypt’s official Middle East News Agency said the bombing did not
produce significant damage. MENA said the explosion failed to spark a fire
because the pipeline had been shut off from an attack on Nov. 10.
