3,000 children of North Korean officials abroad ordered to return home this month

SEOUL — North Korea has ordered its diplomats and trading company officials living overseas to send their children back home.

loyalyouth-300x203Pyongyang apparently hopes to prevent families living abroad from defecting at a time when it seeks better ties with South Korea and the United States, sources here said.

Holding family members as hostages is nothing new in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, and the regime wants no disruptions in its communications strategy now at a sensitive time for the reclusive, outlaw nation.

The country’s leader Kim Jong-Un has issued a decree that diplomats and trading officials abroad must send all their children, except for one child per household, back to the North by the end of September.
